Minister's letter, Sunday 6 October

Dear Friends,

This Sunday marks the eve of the first anniversary of the Hamas attack and Israel's retaliation into Gaza. The fighting is spreading across the Middle East. There are also so many places across the globe, where conflicts are occurring bringing instability and fear to so many. Even here in Britain we have experienced outbreaks of violence.

So on the evening of this Sunday 6th October, I am inviting us to hold a space for peace. If you are able to come and to join me at Upton Methodist Church or online (see the link below and please share it) from 6pm we will spend half an hour in prayer and quiet reflection with no other purpose or agenda than to pray for peace. You may also choose to mark this time in your own way in and in your own home or gathering together- whatever is the most helpful for you.

I will be lighting a candle so you may wish to do something similar at home or consider bringing any symbols of peace.

And once again, I share the opening line from a poem by Ann Weems,

" On the edge of war, one foot already in,
I no longer prayer for peace:
I pray for miracles."

John 14:27: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Every blessing
Rev Karen
