Dear Friends,
Since our last audio worship we have had a general election, a change of government and the King's Speech. These are a lot of changes to become adjusted to in such a short space of time. Some of us will be looking forward to the new, others of us may well be dreading it, and there will be some of us who have no strong opinion either way.
What hasn't changed is the expectation from each of us to love God, to love our neighbour and to love ourselves.
Reading one of the articles from the 'Theology Everywhere' website, Faith in Politics – Theology Everywhere, they pointed out that when we have a change of leadership, the temptation is that we put them on a pedestal and expect, even demand, that they bring about the improvements that we need to live better lives.
Whilst it is easy to get caught up in the media frenzy around personalities (or lack of them), we have to remember that we, each of us, have a part to play in bringing about a new improved world; the choices we make will have consequences. We need to manage and live with them. We cannot delegate our responsibility to someone else, nor can we scapegoat them when things do not turn out exactly as we want. We are all an active part of building God's kingdom here on earth.
But none of us is perfect, and nor are the circumstances we may find ourselves in, hence we have to endure disappointments and upsets at times. We still need to love God, our neighbours and ourselves.
Perhaps if we focus on that, the Kingdom of God here on earth will seem a little closer.
Every blessing,
Rev Karen
