Minister's letter for 17 & 24 March

Dear Friends,

Just a very short note today!

John 12:20-22

"Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, " Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus."

I love the networking that is happening here. Some Greeks had been drawn in by the spectacle of Jesus arriving in Jerusalem, they approached someone who bears a Greek name, so familiar, and in turn Philip went to Andrew and together they went to Jesus. As the passage continues we do not find out if they actually meet Jesus, but Jesus' words at the end anticipate the completion of what is beginning at this point – "And I, when I am lifted up. will draw all people to myself" (v32). The group of Greeks, representing perhaps the wider appeal of Jesus, were already drawing near. There would be a long way to journey, there would be a cost, there would be fruit or growth and there would be choices to make before we get to that 'all people' part.

The spectacle may draw our attention first, finding Jesus for ourselves may be convoluted and we have relied on asking others initially, but it is our response and how we serve God and glorify God that will determine how we grow through Christ.

Every blessing
Rev Karen
