This year, Girlguiding Broadstone and Creekmoor District is celebrating 100 years of Guiding in Broadstone as 1st Broadstone Guides, which meets on the church premises, has its 100th birthday in June.
Guiding has seen many changes and this year we are embracing the latest update to our programme. This includes six new themes that encourage the Guides to Have Adventure, Know myself, Be well, Skills for my future, Express myself, and lastly, Take Action.
What a difference 100 years makes, the girls that formed our Unit would have had a very different lifestyle but surprisingly some Guiding experiences are quite similar to today. There was fundraising for local charities, camp fire cooking, competitions, camping and crafts, all of which we still undertake today.
Our memories for our 100 years will be made over the coming months, with several planned events for the district. We also have a special trip to Switzerland in August to experience Guiding overseas.
As we look forward to the next 100 years, we are always in need of volunteer adults to make memories for the next generation of girls, giving them a voice, safe place to express and more importantly have fun with their friends. So, do you fancy a new challenge; want to learn new skills in a supportive friendly environment?
As the two Unit Leaders will be stepping down in July 2019, having completed a combined 60 years of guiding, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and is capable of leading and carrying the unit forward by encouraging the girls to think and plan ahead. Being part of Girlguiding is rewarding in itself, you will be able to help plan and join in the fun activities, learn new skills, eg abseiling, archery, challenging and fun obstacle courses, camping is always popular so why not come and help our thriving unit.
Without volunteers the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers would not happen, so please contact Broadstone Guiding email@example.com and make the next 100 years count.
