I can do, you can do, we can do!

Good morning friends and welcome to Pivot.

This edition is all about Teamwork and I wanted to share a few of my thoughts on this subject. You see for most of my working life I have been blessed to work as part of a team.

From 1986 to 2007 - the benefit of working as part of a team with large provincial law firms was really brought home to me. As a team, my department worked very efficiently and we were always there supporting, respecting and generally ‘beavering’ away towards a common goal.

When I became a Christian in 1995 I began to see the concept of ‘team’ differently - working within a church as volunteers within a team in our tiny ‘Prim’ Methodist Chapel in Wildhern, Hampshire.

That changed again after ministerial training and coming out into Circuit Ministry in the Bournemouth Circuit in 2007. Here the team was made up of ordained clergy, lay employees and volunteers ~ which worked very well together and was a great support - especially after ill health amongst my ministerial colleagues struck and the pressure was really on.

And now here at Broadstone Methodists I am very conscious of the amazing teamwork that goes on both in our church family and in our wider local community in our Churches Together. We are truly blessed with the various gifts and skills of all the church family that work together as a team.

I often think of Mother Teresa’s words, which sum up our team at Broadstone Methodists perfectly; ‘I can do what you can’t do, and you can do what I can’t do; together we can do great things!’

So to all our team at Broadstone Methodists, whether you are cleaners, tea makers, stewards, techies, admin staff, secretaries, treasurer and finance helpers, flower arrangers, musicians, Young Families workers, receptionists, welcomers, Pivot editors, singers, cooks, property stewards, cake makers, prayers, worship leaders, house group leaders, bacon buttie makers, local preachers, Bible readers, communion stewards, pastoral visitors, luncheon club volunteers, Messy Church volunteers, Café Church helpers, Ufee helpers, notice writers and photocopyists, knitters and natterers, Thirsty Thursday helpers, Broadway helpers, toddler group helpers, artists, thinkers, coffee lounge helpers and absolutely every single soul and member of the entire church family team:
‘I can do what you can’t do, and you can do what I can’t do; together we can do great things!’

And to that my friends I salute you all and say Amen and Amen!

God bless you from
Rev Sue
and all the Team at Broadstone Methodists
PS  With apologies to anyone I have missed.

NB. The team of Church Stewards at Broadstone Methodists has changed. We say a huge thank you to Dave Rigby for all that he has done in his 6 years of service. At the same time we welcome Joan Jackson and Barbara Talbot to the team. We also welcome Jan Attard as a Vestry Steward.
