They are shaking their heads, though not in alarm,
only moved to and fro by the breeze;
this time last week they had not opened up,
as they waited for chill days to ease.
Since then rain has come, and the sun, with its warmth
has provided conditions they need;
a golden array of wild daffodils,
true heralds of Spring? Yes, indeed!
They graced grassy banks, snuggled round boles of trees,
as we walked through East Morden Wood;
with the song of the birds and a blue sky above,
this fresh April morning felt good.
This year Spring was late in arriving,
but so worth the while to wait;
with blossom to follow
and fresh foliage on trees,
and who knows - some more sunshine tomorrow!
