Welcome to Rev Karen James

Rev Karen James tells us about herself, with an introduction from Di Baggs, Senior Circuit Steward.

"The Poole Bay Circuit welcomes the arrival of Rev Karen James, who commences her ministry at the start of the new connexional year in September. Karen will share, with colleagues, pastoral responsibility for our members across the circuit and we look forward to getting to know her better over the weeks and months ahead." Di Baggs.

I am delighted that I have moved to the Poole Bay Circuit for my first stationing as a presbyter and in particular alongside the congregations of Lytchett Matravers, Swanage, Upton and Wool.

I am originally from Essex and still return to visit family, however I moved to Sheffield to attend university and stayed for twenty-five years. During that time, I had a variety of jobs including delivering post, assistant manager at a Pizza Hut delivery, teaching and children and families’ work. It was also in Sheffield that I became a member of the Methodist church, largely because of the genuine welcome I received from the people who attended. For the last two years I have lived in Birmingham whilst training at Queen’s Foundation. I enjoy going for walks with my dog, reading and drawing but I am very much looking forward to having a go at sailing.

At the time of writing I am on the cusp of something new, eagerly anticipated but also tinged with a little uncertainty. Throughout my faith journey God has been constant - even when I was not sure what was going on, or when I went my own way, God never let go of me and when I did respond to the prompting of the Spirit, that is step out in faith, God honoured that step. We are all living in times full of change and uncertainty but which offer amazing opportunities, if we have eyes to see them and the courage to respond prayerfully and appropriately. And God will be constant in his love and guidance of us as we do so.

“Now to him who, by the power at work within us, is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen” Ephesians 3:20-21

Every Blessing,

Karen
